Most important: PADAH members do their own in depth research on all items they offer for sale. You can imagine when a member of PADAH purchases an autographed item, they are spending money out of their own pocket and have done research not only before making the purchase, but after the item is delivered. They also have available to them, the PADAH research library. The PADAH research library is so impressive, one of the top high-profile companies who claims to authenticate autographs tried to purchase it.
Because of the careful research done by PADAH members before and after they purchase any autograph, there is absolutely no need for a collector to have their items sent to any of the companies who claim to authenticate autographs. Matter of fact, as a member of PADAH, they are not required to make a refund on an item they sold based on the opinion or guess by ANY company who claims to authenticate autographs. Items sent to a company who claims to authenticate autographs is simply a shot in the dark. You will never be able to find out who at the company authenticated the autograph you submitted.
The mistakes made by all of these companies are numerous. Most companies lack a serious reference library and this is why so many of their mistakes could have been avoided if just a little time was spent on research. There are so many secretarial and autopen signatures that are passed as genuine by these companies only because they have not purchased many of the current reference books that are easily available.
Uneducated collectors send in their items to these companies, usually paying a bloated fee, and in addition pay for an additional fee so the item can be placed in a plastic coffin and ending up with a mis-authenticated autograph. By avoiding this insanity, the only legal document a collector needs is a bill of sale, properly filled out, from a member of PADAH.
