All should agree things are slow in the hobby of autographs. Times like this bring the forgers out of the closet. The latest seems to be coming out of the Las Vegas area.
This forger is specializing on lower end items affordable to most. After all everyone likes a bargain. Remember if it's too good to be true, it usually is!
Listed on ebay for $399.00 is a check said to be in Harry Truman's hand , dated April 6, 1909 for $10.00. Truman checks are usually selling from $599 and up. That is the lightening bolt that should be the first to strike you.
Are you ready to jump on this or do you want to take a second look? A smart collector will always take their time to inspect an autograph item thoroughly. In this case, it is my opinion that if you take this check an cut it from "Ten" dollars on down it would fool most dealers. The forger is that good! However this half-wit with a pen isn't that smart. What this person did was nearly perfect a signature of Harry Truman from the mid to late 1950's and sign it on a 1909 check.
Just another reason to make sure before purchasing any autographed item , look for the "PADAH' logo on the dealers web site.
